The numbers below show who is using the finance. The case files after them show what it changes, one household at a time. Each file follows a single household from the moment a birth or an illness reached it, through what the hub did, to what it cost the family in the end.
The families agreed to share their stories, their names and their photographs. The words in quotation marks are their own.

CASE FILE 01MUMBAI EAST HUB · A BIRTH
HEENA (RIGHT) AT HOME WITH A MEMBER OF THE HUB TEAM
Heena Imran Khan
37 · THIRD PREGNANCY · HUSBAND THE ONLY EARNER, ₹27,000 A MONTH
Heena lives in one of the most crowded settlements in Mumbai East. When she was expecting her third child, she came to the hub for a loan to pay for the delivery and the care after it.
The hub doctor advised her to register at a public hospital and to keep up her regular antenatal check-ups. Once her medical papers were in, a loan of ₹20,000 was sanctioned within a day. It covered her delivery and her post-natal care.
For her first two children, the family had borrowed at 60% a year.
“During the birth of my older two children, we had to take out a loan at 60% per annum interest, and it was very difficult to pay it back.”
“This health loan saved us from borrowing money from moneylenders.”

CASE FILE 02KALYAN-DOMBIVLI HUB, ULHASNAGAR · TWO ILLNESSES IN TWO MONTHS
Kavita Deepak Kshirsagar
SIX IN THE HOUSEHOLD · ABOUT ₹25,000 A MONTH
October 2025. Kavita’s father-in-law, 52, had a stroke that left his left side paralysed. The hospital estimate was ₹60,000, more than two months of the family’s income. An emergency health loan of ₹30,000 was sanctioned within a day, so his treatment did not stop, and his consultations at the hub were free.
Two months later. Her husband was diagnosed at a private hospital with cancer of the tongue. The estimate was ₹8,00,000, close to three years of the family’s income.
Because she already knew the hub, Kavita went straight to the hub doctor. He was referred to a network hospital, and the family was helped to use the government schemes they were entitled to. His treatment was completed for about ₹1,00,000.

What the two files have in common
01
A doctor came before the money
In both homes the first question was about care: which hospital, which scheme, which check-ups. The loan was sized after that.
02
The money came quickly
Both loans were sanctioned within a day of the papers being in. A birth or a stroke cannot wait.
03
The relationship lasted
Kavita came for a loan and came back for advice. The second visit saved her family far more than the first loan cost.
